PackRat -- An Evil Little Time Waster

Submitted by Rosethorn on June 4, 2008 - 8:37am. Exclusive Video Game Editorials

There's a little applet on Facebook called PackRat that I just adore! It appeals to all my collector instincts, and I have many. I am an admitted Facebook addict anyway, I just love reading everyone's daily updates and seeing the pictures people put up and playing co-op on PackRat with Katie Postma! The nice thing is that when you need a little break from your daily grind, there it is, waiting for you to waste 15 minutes.

Wii Fit - Not Enough Unlockables?

Submitted by Rosethorn on June 3, 2008 - 12:12pm. Exclusive Video Game Editorials

So I've been up to a couple of fun things lately. One is Age of Conan and someday I'll get around to writing about my experiences in that game. The other thing I've been messing around with is Wii Fit.

I'm in terrible shape. I'm a wee bit overweight, but nothing that I'm desperate to lose. But I am by no means fit. So when Wii Fit finally came out in the states (those in Europe got it first for a change!), I went down to my local Toys R Us first thing in the morning and grabbed me a copy.

'Elias The Mighty' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on May 22, 2008 - 8:01am. Exclusive Game Review

As a child, do you remember the pre-school toy where you were supposed to take square pegs and place them in square slots? If so, perhaps Elias The Mighty is a game right up your alley, as it follows the same premise for the most part. You wouldn't think it, but trying to properly recognize shapes can be rather difficult at times. So is Elias The Mighty truly mighty or merely average?

'Build-a-Lot 2: Town of the Year' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on May 9, 2008 - 11:41am. Exclusive Game Review

I'm typically not a big fan of micromanagement casual games, but one that surprised me with its quality when it was first released was Build-a-Lot. It was great to be land baron, buying up houses for sell, improving them, turning them for profit, and then buying up all the land in the area. Build-a-Lot 2: Town of the Year continues the same trends and gameplay from the last game, but yet has also added a few new features as well. Sigh, if only I had the money to really wheel and deal in real life.

'Dancing With The Stars' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on May 6, 2008 - 3:36pm. Exclusive Game Review

I always enjoyed So You Think You Can Dance more than Dancing With The Stars, but over these last two seasons I've found some joy in watching the drama of the show. I pull for Cheryl Burke each season because I love her so. I'm riveted by Cristián de la Fuente – who I'd never heard of before this – and how he tore a muscle, is dancing with only one useable arm right now, and had the best performances of his dancing career this week. Okay, so I'm addicted to the show now, but sadly not this game at all.

'Slingo Quest Hawaii' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on May 1, 2008 - 9:01am. Exclusive Game Review

Once upon a time I thought bingo was only a pastime old people could enjoy, but after one long road trip to a casino and a few hours of playing, however, my mind was changed and I had a blast. Since then, sadly, there hasn't been a bingo experience that could even compare to that one. Trying to capture the gameplay of bingo in a game is like trying to find a great game of bingo – it's only as fun as the experience and people surrounding it. Along comes Slingo Quest Hawaii, a bingo-esque game, which manages to capture the spirit of bingo and transform it into something that can be enjoyed by yourself.

'DragonStone' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 22, 2008 - 11:53am. Exclusive Game Review

Being in love sucks! If it isn't the pain of your heart being stepped on and squashed like a bug, it's having to overcome numerous obstacles – such as an overbearing father – in order to just be near the one you want. So, should you find yourself having to embark on a journey to get a magical stone to prove your worth to your love, what should you do? As it turns out, having a magical bow that shoots different colored balls is a marvelous tool to have to save the day.

'Mythic Mahjong' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 21, 2008 - 9:51am. Exclusive Game Review

The last mahjong game I played was the excellent Mahjongg Investigations: Under Suspicion, a game that managed to take the ancient gameplay of mahjong and tweaked it and made it new and relevant by incorporating little twists in the gameplay. Much like that game, Mythic Mahjong takes the traditional formula and makes it once again feel new with a fantasy adventure that will have you matching tiles in the name of saving your queen and vanquishing a dragon.

'Jabber' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 18, 2008 - 8:54am. Exclusive Game Review

When it comes to word games, it seems that most of the time the game is only ever as good as your actual vocabulary dictionary. Most games require an understanding of many different four or five letter words to advance you through the game, while knowing only a few basic words of three letters will lead to nothing but frustration. Jabber bridges the two extremes fairly well, letting word masters make some dastardly long words while yet giving those non-English college majors a chance at winning for a change.

'The Price Is Right' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 16, 2008 - 8:42am. Exclusive Game Review

Come on down! I couldn't even begin to tell you how many episodes of The Price Is Right I've seen over my lifetime. Whether it's Bob Barker or Drew Carey, I'm there at 11:00AM every day, eating lunch while I bid on prices and play games that I have no investment in and have no chance of winning. Still, oh, I love watching the show! And when I fired up The Price Is Right game for the first time and heard that signature music, how my smile did widen. So is the new The Price Is Right casual game as awesome as winning a Dodge Viper or is it as frustrating as someone outbidding you by one dollar for the win?

'Zen Fashion' Preview (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 14, 2008 - 7:23am. Exclusive Game Preview

I'm a sucker for Asian style. At this very moment, for instance, I've got a huge manga book sitting on my desk that I'm using to try and teach myself how to draw. Given my leanings towards everything Asian, I instantly jumped at the chance to spend some time with a preview build of Zen Fashion, a soon to be released casual game that bridges the majestic nature of the Oriental with some flower matching fun. If only I could get my own hairdo to give me the power to slow down time.

'Runes of Avalon 2' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 10, 2008 - 7:29am. Exclusive Game Review

Whenever I think back to all of the casual games I've played over the last year or so, Runes of Avalon still remains one of the most unique and freshest ones to come to mind whenever I think of the quality and entertainment that is possible with a good casual game. Imagine my excitement then when I heard Runes of Avalon 2 was finished and ready to be released. I quickly downloaded the game and found myself once again falling in love with the franchise once again.

'El Dorado Quest' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on April 7, 2008 - 9:15am. Exclusive Game Review

When it comes to puzzle games, one of my favorite genres is the one where you have to match at least three of one type of gem, making matches so that you can highlight the tile backgrounds underneath the gems, ultimately winning the level by lighting up all of the board. Though the "board lighting" genre is one of my favorites, they can still bore me if there isn't enough innovation to change things up a bit. El Dorado Quest is still very much a typical "board lighting" game, but yet within that is a few unique twists that make the game better than other games cut from the same cloth.

Casual Game of the Week: 'Fishing Craze' Review (PC)

Submitted by thankeeka on March 31, 2008 - 3:52pm. Exclusive Game Review

In this hectic world we live in, many times work and appointments must come before the fun and joys in our lives, including that of getting to play videogames whenever we want. Gone are the days when we could fire up a game of our choice and spend hours toiling away – now we seem to game in stolen moments here and there. With that in mind, perhaps it is no wonder that casual games have become such a popular gaming choice (especially with women who make up the vast majority of casual game players), as casual games allow us to either jump in and get those quick fixes of gaming bliss or either play them for as long as we want when we do have the time. In honor of the casual game, we'll be bringing you a new Casual Game of the Week every Monday to help you find that fix you might be needing in your life, and this week we have: Magic Match Adventures
