'FEAR: Extraction Point' (PC) QA - Tim Hall

Submitted by thankeeka on October 31, 2006 - 1:35pm. Exclusive Interviews

Pool of BloodIn recognition of Halloween, Killer Betties got to ask Tim Hall - the producer of FEAR: Extraction Point - some questions about the game and...wait, did you hear that? Oh, hello little girl, what's your name? Alma you say. Why are you dripping blood? Wait, what are you doing, noooo!

1. In terms of chronology, where does the Extraction Point expansion pack of FEAR take place?

Extraction Point starts right where the original F.E.A.R. ended

2. Is there anything you can reveal about the story of Extraction Point?

In the original F.E.A.R. you were tasked with finding out what was going on, now in Extraction Point you've found what was going on and everything has gone horribly wrong. Your mission this time is to just try and get out alive while everything is gunning for you.

3. Beyond keeping all the things that made the original so popular, expansions packs usually contain a few new elements. Are there any new weapons in the game and if so what are they and their specialty?

There are 3 new weapons coming with Extraction Point. A mini-gun, a laser rifle and a turret based mine that will be of great help in few levels. Keep in mind that you will have to get these new weapons from the cold dead hands of hostiles.

4. Are there any new enemies and if so what are they and what are their skills/how do they behave?

We have several new enemies in Extraction Point ranging from new heavies that have a lot more weaponry to the new Shadow Creatures which are kind of like poltergeists so they are very difficult to spot.

5. Beyond the ability from the first game, which allowed you to go into a sort of "slow-mo" ability, will our main character have any new powers at his disposal?

No we didn't want to add in all sorts of new powers and since you are playing the same character as in F.E.A.R.

6. One of the complaints FEAR received was that too many times the environments all seemed the same, such as one office room after the next. Has Extraction Point taken any precautions to eliminate this complaint and expand the look of the environments? If so, how?

All of the environments in Extraction Point are new. We have a church with some very creepy catacombs, a new warehouse district that allows for some long range and team fighting, the subway and the world's scariest hospital.

7. One thing people didn't complain about was the AI of the game's enemies. Was the enemy AI left intact, as it was in FEAR, or was it tweaked to make the AI even that much more of a standout?

We had made some changes here and there with the AI so that they are more proactive in taking cover and trying to stay alive. Don't worry, they are still very determined to take you down and work within the situations of the combat.

8. Are any new multiplayer components being added, or is Extraction Point specifically for the single player experience?

Extraction Point is specifically a single player experience. We did release the online multiplayer portion of F.E.A.R. last month as a free download called F.E.A.R. Combat. We have also continuously updated the original F.E.A.R.'s multiplayer with new maps and game modes since the original release. So we didn't add anything from Extraction Point to the multiplayer but we are now giving the multiplayer game away free.
