World Cyber Games Announces Host City Bidding for WCG 2008 Grand Final

The World Cyber Games Committee (WCGC) has announced the host city bidding plan for the 2008 World Cyber Games (WCG) Grand Final. The deadline for receiving applications is May 20, 2006, and the host city for the WCG 2008 Grand Final will be announced later in the year after a vigorous screening process.

Cities that bid to host the WCG Grand Final will be evaluated upon a series of criteria including location/financing, facilities, infrastructure, and promotion. In addition, the chosen host city will need to demonstrate an ability to work closely with the WCGC in order to promote the Grand Final.

Once proposals are received, cities will go through a series of processes including document screening and on-site reviews.

The WCG introduced the host city concept in 2002 when Daejeon, South Korea, successfully hosted the WCG Grand Final that year. The WCG then moved its event overseas in 2004 when San Francisco hosted the WCG 2004 Grand Final. The WCG 2005 Grand Final was then held in Singapore, which further attracted the attention of the world.

This year's Grand Final will be held from October 18 - 22 at F1 Autodromo, in Monza, Italy. It marks the first time that the WCG Grand Final has been held in Europe. The WCG will return to the U.S. in 2007 when Seattle will host the Grand Final after it successfully outbid other candidate cities, such as Cologne, Germany, Montreal, Canada, and Busan, South Korea.

It has been shown that the WCG contributes to the development of the economy and IT infrastructure in host cities and spreads advanced e-Sport culture through cultural exchanges. Competition for hosting the WCG 2008 Grand Final is therefore expected to be fierce.
