Are you just as tired as seeing old 80s arcade games being easily ported over to the Xbox Live Arcade with little enhancements if any at all, and wondering where those original titles are that seem to be the only ones people really care about playing? So what does MS look for in their Xbox Live Arcade games?
Xbox Live Arcade is a strange beast, a constantly changing mix of original and remixed nostalgic titles and something that's pushed the entire industry to embrace as a new revenue stream. But, how does Microsoft pick and choose what appears on the marketplace? We all know the process is slow -- Microsoft themselves says it can take six to nine months to go from from pitch to release -- so choosing the right games is a crucial first step.
Gamasutra spoke with XBL Arcade games portfolio planner David Edery recently, who outlined what they're looking for every pitch they receive:
1) Non-combat, cooperative multiplayer games (as I mentioned earlier).
2) More board games.
3) More "experimental" games and models of gameplay, in general.
