In many aspects, women gamers are still the outcast table in the school lunchroom hanging out near the vending machines. Progress to acceptance has advanced considerably, but still women gamers are finding it hard for themselves to be taken seriously by their male counterpart peers. So...what does a gamer girl want?
The subject gamer girl has been raising the attention of both male gamers and the gaming industry. The reasons for this interest and the opinions expressed can be completely different. Depending on the vision one has of women in general, we are treated as heroines or bashed without any reason.
In all the mix of support and accusations, one thing remains unclear: what do the gamer girls really want? What do they expect from themselves and from their pals?
A lot has been changing in the profile of games consumers and it is not difficult to find surveys and statistics all over the web about the topic. However, there is one thing figures are not able to show: the people behind the numbers.
This does not have to do with the quality, complexity or amount of information collected. My intention here is not transforming the subject into some technical dissertation.
The fact is that we are talking about individuals who do not always fit into the pre-determined answers, or who simply have very specific needs and thoughts that end up being suffocated by the masses. Despite the remarkable increase in the number of members, the group of female gamers is not majority (yet?). Taking that into consideration, it is not an absurdity to conclude that only a small part of our wishes and expectations are heard and attended.
