Don't you love big company PR spin? When Microsoft released news of the Elite, of course Sony was one of the first to stand up and say, "Oh, bad move Microsoft. All of our gamers are elite." Course, then word comes out today that Sony might have a similar upgrade plan as well in the works. Fibbers.
From the article:
Because of an FCC filing that was recently leaked out that pointed to Sony's own "elite" PlayStation 3, the company has already come out and denied that such an action means a new PS3 is coming out ... at this time. "As mentioned when we made the product announcement for PS3, the system will have different configurations (thus, 60GB HDD with memory card slots and Wi-Fi and 20GB HDD without memory card slots or Wi-Fi both exist)," wrote a Sony PR rep in an e-mail to Next-Gen. "Application to the FCC has been made with various possibilities in mind, however, it does not lead to a new product announcement at this time."
On March 2, Sony filed an FCC "Class II Permissive Change" request regarding the PS3's Bluetooth module. The documentation mentions the addition of an 80GB PS3 model, complete with model number.
