'MiXem' First Impressions (PC)

Finally, learning to mix colors pays off, but I don't remember it being this hard in kindergarten.

MiXem is another puzzle game in a long line of puzzle games. Like seemingly every other puzzle game out there, MiXem relies on simple game mechanics to easily give you a feel for the game and get you in the groove, but slowly the difficulty level is ramped up through new ideas you must incorporate to keep on advancing.

In MiXem, the goal of the game is to move blocks around, but more importantly, to merge colored squares into colored stones so that you can make combos of at least three to clear them from the board; all the while you are doing this, the blocks are slowly raising closer and closer to the danger ceiling where your game will end if a block touches the line. The game, as said, eases you in at first by only giving you red and yellow tiles to merge into orange stones. So you'll see a red tile and a yellow tile on the ground, and if they aren't touching each other, you'll use the left mouse button to select one and drag it to an adjacent square that is touching the other one. After the two colored tiles are side by side with each other, you'll then use the right mouse button to merge them into whatever color they make. Think back to your early school days and how the teacher who gave you the apple juice would tell you that when you mix these two colors you get this new color. You might've thought it magic back then, but it becomes extremely important in this game.

TV shows are more advanced today than they were when I was a little kid. My nephew had a Blue's Clues episode playing one day and they were mixing colors as well. I knew the simple ones, but when they started combining colors to make chartreuse
