Today opens up the almighty pop culture phenomenon that is the San Diego Comic Con, so what better day than today to let readers in on the new Iron Man game, being made in conjunction with the upcoming movie. We got to see the game at E3 this year, and now here we are with all our impressions, and all the info we managed to extract from the developers. So is the game, dare we say it despite bad puns, marvelous? Iron Man tells the story of playboy businessman Tony Stark, who ends up creating a mechanical system to help support him, due to a bad heart of his. During his time at war (changing up from the comic to the movie we hear) he is taken prisoner, and ends up creating a mechanical armor suit to be used as a weapon, but that he takes on himself. As Iron Man, the developers said their goal was to make the character (and the player as well) feel like a one-man army. During the demo, not much was shown of actual on-ground combat, though there was one moment where Iron Man was punching a tank. For the majority of the action, however, combat was of the flying type, zipping around the environments, dealing with ground-to-air missiles, planes, etc. Whether that's going to be the final case is unclear, or just how any type of villain fights might take place in the game. Fans of Iron Man should be happy in that the character model for the old tin-head is really gorgeous and detailed, and many of his trademark moves were on display for us. Besides all the flying around and shooting, Iron Man showed off some other pretty spectacular moves, such as grabbing a missile heading his way, and then tossing it back to the ground at the enemy that shot it. Being a comic book nerd, of course I had plenty of questions about what to expect in regards to come book inclusion. We learned that the developers are working on getting the cast from the movie to provide their own voices in the game, but nothing has been set in stone yet. As is the popular trend with recent games, Iron Man won't simply be a retelling of the movie, but will follow the movie and also have side stories (in other words) that weren't seen in the movies, and these are the moments most expected to delve into the comic fanboy's dreams. It was fun listening to the guarded secrecy, as neither question could be answered at 100% at this time. First up, we learned that characters from the comics will be making appearances – such as some of Iron Man's main villains – but no word on who exactly that would be. We also learned that we'll get to outfit ourselves with many of Iron Man's costumes throughout the years, as they will unlock for use as you play (plus, if based on the movie, a natural progressions and change of the suit will probably happen as well). Not much else is known about the game at this moment, but it looked like a fun, flying romp, which players can expect to pickup for the Xbox 360, the PS3, Wii, and/or DS when the game eventually hits.
