Dumb Judges

Alabama is letting a case against the makers of Grand Theft Auto go to trial. In the case, family members of the victims of a murderer are suing because the murderer was allegedly trained to kill by playing the game.

The lawsuit was filed by the families of two police officers and a dispatcher who were murdered by 18 year old Devin Moore in June 2003. Moore pled not guilty by reason of mental defect, but was convicted of the crimes and sentenced to death. The plaintiffs claim that Moore trained to become a killer by playing Grand Theft Auto.

Now I'm sure there can be many debates regarding video games actually training someone to be a killer. But I have a bigger question.

If you can be sued for training someone to be a killer, will we start seeing lawsuits against the US Government for victims of ex-military or current military individuals who shoot and kill someone illegally?

Indeed, can of worms. I'd think the US Government would want to put this one down as quickly as possible.

training a person to kill

There is a difference between
What the person does

and how the person does it

and why the person does it!

As a US trained grunt I was given a weapon [M-1]

with the understanding I could not use that M-1

except to defend myself , and my country from the bad guys.

Am I a trained killer?
