The Cyberathlete Professional League? $1,000,000 World Tour Finals To Culminate Nov. 22, 2005, In New York City As MTV Televises All the Action. This year's tour kicked off in Istanbul, Turkey and has since made nine stops across the globe, all leading up to the final showdown, which will take place Tuesday, November 22 at the newly built Nokia Theatre in Times Square. Preliminary matches will take place Sunday, November 20 and Monday, November 21, 2005 at the web2zone cyber center in New York. The finals culminate on Tuesday, November 22 with a head-to-head competition between the top two finalists with a combined $250,000, the largest cash prize ever handed out in competitive video gaming for one match. In addition, the tour points leader will be awarded the "Intel Player of the Year" title and take home an additional $20,000 and the Intel Gaming Cup. "The New York event is shaping up to be unprecedented in its reach to both the gamer enthusiasts and the general public alike", said Angel Munoz, President and Founder of The CPL. "This event is the realization of eight years of expectations, dreams, and hard work for us." MTV has partnered with The CPL and will provide coverage of the Finals on MTV Overdrive, the new broadband video channel from MTV.com. MTV will also feature live highlights of the tournament and create a half-hour special of the World Tour Finals to air on MTV on Saturday, November 26, 2005. "Videogames have become a key driver behind today's pop culture and we are excited to embrace the new frontier of professional competition in bringing the head-to-head action to our audience," said Salli Frattini, Senior Vice-President for MTV Networks. Festivities during this year's championship event will include technology demonstrations, VIP parties, sponsorship booths, musical performances, various vendor participation and of course videogames.
