CPL Gaming League Will Begin Drug Testing in 2007

I find it sad enough already that playing videogames are being put in the same light already as professionally played sports, but to each their own I guess and I suppose some people would send videogames as a sport with the seriousness some people take multiplayer matches. But drug testing for said games? And why no rally against Red Bull or other high caffeine drinks? Everybody knows professional gamers love to slam back some Red Bulls before a match so they get wired and in firing shape.

From the article:

Those looking to enhance their performance in the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) next year had best read the entry rules very carefully.

There will be a new clause in player contracts which allows the CPL to test participants for drugs, reports Tom’s Hardware. Of the new testing program, CPL found Angel Munoz said:

The potential for (drugs) being an issue absolutely concerns me, It should concern anybody in eSports, because as the stakes get larger, as in any sport, people will look for an edge… In 2007, we are going to have the right to drug test someone. It’s going to have to be this way.

Munoz told Tom’s Hardware that the tests will not be random, and not all competitors will be required to provide a sample.

Can't agree with your point

Can't agree with your point of view on this one. :) Gaming does require some physical abilities, such as reflexes and endurance. Caffeine is not tested for in professional sports, so why would it be in games anyway? That logic doesn't make a lot of sense. Caffeine is in no way an illegal drug. It's not even a prescription drug. Drug screening usually only targets illegal and prescription drugs.
